Market Outlook - June 14, 2012

Brentwood Corn

Dwelley Farms, located in the Brentwood, agricultural area, is close to the Sacramento Delta and within view of the Altamont Pass and Mt. Diablo. During the growing season, the area is characterized by hot days and cool nights which result in excellent growing conditions.

Summer Produce

We continue our transition to summer crops this week with two significant new arrivals. White Corn from Dwelley Farms is now available with yellow corn to follow next week. The corn from this Brentwood area farm is recognized for its quality and flavor.

Market Outlook - June 07, 2012

Local Gypsy Peppers

gypsy-peppersLocal sweet Gypsy peppers by Capay Organic. Three varieties currently available– Lipstick– very sweet 4-inch oblong red pepper, Yellow Gypsy-thin walled, great for roasting, and Cuerno di Toro-aka Bulls Horn– sweet red pepper but mildly hot. Available in single or a mixed variety 'Toy Box' cases.

Local Seasonal Produce

Though still spring in terms of the calendar, we have a tendency to associate the beginning of summer with the passing of the Memorial Day holiday rather than the Summer Solstice on June 20th. Our local farms are transitioning to new crops and, while beets and greens are still available, there is much to choose from with regard to summer produce. This week we are offering local produce from the following farms: Frog Hollow Farm-We continue this week with outstanding apricots from this organic farm in Brentwood.

Frog Hollow Farm Apricots
