Southern Freeze

Last weeks market outlook mentioned the cold snap and freeze affecting all southern growing areas including Oxnard, Palm Springs, Yuma and Mexico. The cool temperatures remain and are causing many issues with product availability, harvesting and packing schedules, as well as quality and shelf life issues. The extended forecast calls for night time temperatures to remain in the high 30’s and daytime temperatures to reach the low 60’s for the next ten days. The markets that have been dramatically affected include:

  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Broccolini
  • Cauliflower
  • Romanesco
  • Celery
  • Iceberg
  • Romaine
  • Spring Mix
  • Romaine Hearts
  • Baby Lettuces
  • Spinach
  • Baby Spinach
  • Squashes
  • Tomatoes
