local peaches from twin peaks orchard

We are pleased to announce the arrival of local stone fruit this week from Twin Peaks Orchard. Located in Newcastle, CA, this fifth generation family farm will supply us with over two dozen varieties of peaches and six varieties of nectarines throughout the season, weather and supply permitting. Peaches are divided into two categories: clings and freestone. Cling peaches have firm flesh and do not separate from the pit easily. Freestone peaches have a softer, more delicate flesh and separate easily from the pit.

The season begins with the following yellow varieties: Super Rich, Spring Treat, and Rich May. All three varieties have beautiful color, are juicy and have a balanced sweet/tart flavor. They are high acid, low sugar, and semi-freestone- they will soften but do not separate from the pit. Yellow peaches are perfect for baking, salads, pizza, pies, ice cream, cocktails, salsa and more. Available by the 18# case, with peach size on the small side (50-56 count per case).

Twin Peaks also has Snow Angel White Peaches available. White peaches tend to be sweeter, juicer and softer than yellow varieties, making them great for purees and sauces. The Snow Angels are fragrant, high acid, and semi-free stone. Available by the 18# (60 count) case. Twin Peaks Nectarines are expected to begin around the first week of June. Enjoy the harvest!

tasting tuesday on the farm

We are hitting the road for our next Tasting Tuesday! Take the day off and join us on June 6 for a trip to Dwelley Farms and Frog Hollow Farms located in the Delta. June is best time of year to visit both of these farms because it is peak season for their staple crops. Dwelley Farms is currently supplying us with a variety of fresh beans, and expect to harvest corn, plums and pluots at the beginning of June. It is always fun to visit Dwelley and learn about their growing and harvesting methods, plus everyone tends to leave with a ton of delicious fresh produce compliments of Dwelley Farms.

Down the road at Frog Hollow, we will be able to learn about and taste their delectable apricots. This trip is open to all restaurant industry team members. Chefs and Managers– please share this with all staff. The more your staff knows, the more they can educate customers and sell, sell, sell! Seating is limited.
