We will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 23rd for the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will be closing at 3PM on Wednesday, November 22nd. Our answering machine will be in operation throughout the holiday.

All specialty items  should be ordered no later than Tuesday, November 21st as the San Francisco Market will be closed Friday, November 24th.

All pre-cut items must be ordered before noon on Wednesday, November 22nd for Friday delivery. The more notice we have increases our ability to locate product. Many items will be scarce due to inventory reductions and freight schedules. PLEASE PLAN AHEAD.

Scott Talks Winter Vegetables

Produce Express sales rep Scott Rose shows us which winter vegetable varieties are best for what recipes.

This is the time of year where you'll find a variet of winter greens at the market.

  • Green chard - ruffled wavy leaves, tender, sweet
  • Rainbow chard - mixed chards for a colorful, balanced combination
  • Collard greens - long and slow cooking for a smoky flavor

The terms “hand-made” and “small-batch” seem to be everywhere these days. What do they really mean? Every recipe in the NutHouse Granola kitchen is measured by hand, mixed and trayed up by hand, and packaged by hand. Smaller batches mean that primary ingredients are purchased in smaller quantities. This improves rotation and helps maintain freshness. More attention can be paid to each batch. Mixing everything in a big bowl with a paddle allows me to mix with a light hand and preserve the ingredient textures instead of pulverizing them in a motorized machine. The batches are made more often, and each successive batch is incrementally just that much fresher that the last. By not stockpiling and warehousing inventory, every package gets to you as fresh as possible!
