Our annual Summer Farmer’s Market is just around the corner! We throw this event every summer to celebrate all things farm-to-fork and the seasonal bounty of the Sacramento Valley. It is our way of saying THANK YOU to the farmers for all their hard work throughout the year and to all the chefs who support them by buying from Produce Express! The fun will include:

  • Local, seasonal produce!
  • Over 40 local farmers paired with local chefs, creating delicious bites that highlight the best of the season!
  • Tons of produce giveaways!
  • Get to know the people that grow your food and supply your kitchens every day!
  • Catch up with industry friends and network!

romaine LETTUCE alert 6/1/18

Here is some information about where Produce Express procures its romaine from:

  • All romaine from Produce Express is from Field Fresh Farms located in Watsonville, CA
  • All of our chopped romaine is processed in Sacramento using Watsonville romaine only
  • All romaine salad mixes contain Romaine from Watsonville, CA

General Information: The latest release from the CDC has 25 additional illnesses reported since the last update on May 16th. People typically get sick from E. coli in 2-8 days after swallowing the germ. The average time it takes to get reported to the CDC is two to three weeks after becoming ill. The reported illness period has been adjusted to cover March 13th to May 12th. The CDC has named the Yuma, AZ region as the source of the outbreak, but has been unable to link a common grower, distributor or brand. The CDC still has NOT issued a recall at this time. As of May 2, the Arizona Department of Agriculture has confirmed that the Yuma growing region is no longer producing or distributing romaine. It is likely that there is no longer any affected romaine in the supply chain due to its 21-day shelf life.

Recap Summary: As of April 13, the CDC has reported a multi-state outbreak of E. coli related illnesses that have been associated with chopped romaine from the Yuma, AZ growing region. Here is the associated info:

  • 197 people infected with E. coli have been reported across 35 states
  • California is one of the states with reported illness (45 cases including 1 death)
  • The illnesses started on dates ranging from March 13th to May 12th
  • 25 new illnesses reported since May 16th
  • The CDC is not recommending a recall at this time
  • Yuma is no longer producing or distributing romaine per the Arizona Department of Agriculture
  • It is unlikely that any affected Yuma Romaine remains in the supply chain do it its 21 days shelf life

 At Hodo Soy everything starts with the ‘good bean’. The actual soybeans that form the foundation for all of our products are selected with great care and consciousness. We use only whole, certified organic, non-GMO beans, all-US grown from farmer’s cooperatives Midwest Organic Farmers Cooperative and Everbest Organics. Tofu Master, Minh Tsai selects the soybean variety with the exact protein and fat content needed to create the rich and creamy flavor profile that Hodo Soy is known for. He then personally trains every person working on the Beanery floor to become an artisan able to hand-craft our products to his exacting.


Our mission is to craft the highest quality, best-tasting, freshest soymilk, tofu, and yuba possible; then to get our products to our customers right away so that they can be enjoyed at the peak of freshness; all the while working to demystify tofu through direct customer education and transparency of our ingredient sourcing, production methods, and philosophy.


As a child in Vietnam, Minh Tsai, often took morning walks with his grandfather to the neighborhood tofu shack. They would bring the fresh tofu home and enjoy it within hours after it had been prepared. As an adult, living in the United States, he found that the fresh, artisan-quality soymilk, tofu and yuba he remembered fondly from his youth proved elusive. Frustrated by his attempts to find fresh, great-tasting tofu on the market and inspired by the delicious home-cooked meals he regularly shared with friends and family, the idea to bring the tofu of his childhood to his local community was born. With a group of cousins and friends, Minh started testing the waters, making soymilk, tofu and yuba with organic, non-GMO soybeans out of a family-run commercial kitchen and selling it at the Palo Alto Farmers’ Market. In 2004, after an enthusiastic response and growing demand through word-of-mouth, he left his career in finance and founded what would become Hodo Soy, with the mission to craft the highest quality, best-tasting, freshest soymilk, tofu, and yuba possible.
