The Melogold Grapefruit is a cross between a pummelo and a grapefruit, but takes on the flavor of the pummelo more than the grapefruit. It had very few seeds and its thick rind is easy to peel. The pith is very bitter and should be completely removed prior to use.
Melogolds are great in salads and raw preparations.
While other fruit trees are dormant at this time of year, citrus trees are flush with a wide variety of fruit. Equally important is price as most oranges, lemons and specialty citrus are at their lowest price at this point of the season.
