Market Outlook - September 12, 2019


cranberry bean mc 300x300As the summer winds down, we will begin to see some crops gap and begin to finish while fall crops begin. Here are some updates on both summer and fall items.

Apples– Apple Hill Apples will be available for Saturday delivery. Gala, Golden, Ruby Mac, and Ruby Jon are the first varieties we are bringing in and will be available by the case only.

Beans– Summer Beans from Dwelley will be available into October, although we may begin to see gapping in different varieties.

Corn– Sweet Yellow Corn from Dwelley is finished. Dwelley White Corn is currently gapping but will be available in a couple of weeks before the crop finishes in October. We are currently using corn from G&S in Brentwood.

Stone Fruit– Twin Peaks stone fruit will be completely finished very soon. We will still have local stone fruit from J&J Ramos. Cherries and apricots have finished for the season.

Peppers– Due to their late start, peppers should be around longer than usual. We expect to have local peppers through October.

Heirloom Tomatoes– Heirlooms from Ray Yeung will be available until October 31st. The end of October is typically when they finish.

Local Melons– Local varietal melons are available from Fully Belly and F&D Farms. We expect to have them into October. Central California melons are finished for the season.

Hard Squash– We have begun to see the start of hard squash. We are now stocking Delicata Squash from Durst Organic Growers by the case only. Red Kurri and Sugar Pie Pumpkins are available from Full Belly by the case only.

Fresh Dug Potatoes– Fresh dug potatoes from Full Belly are still available. German Butterball, Bintje, and Mountain Rose are all available by the 25# case only.

Turnips– We are stocking Riverdog Scarlet Queen Turnips, as well as Tokyo Turnips by the 10# case only.

Radish– Locally grown Watermelon Radish is available by the pound and 10# bag from Riverdog.

September 24th | Apple Hill Farm Tour–We will be visiting Larsen Apple Barn where we will be taking a tour of the apple orchard and enjoying the rich history of their farm. Then we will head over to Apple Ridge Farm where we will have a cheese tasting with Sierra Nevada Cheese. There is a large “country store” filled with delicious baked goods. Take time to explore the handmade crafts before stopping for lunch. A barbecue lunch will be provided by Apple Ridge at the orchard. The tour is expected to kick off at 8:30AM and we are expected to return to Sacramento at 2:30PM. Please contact your sales rep or our office to RSVP. Berried Treasures– A blend of dried hibiscus, currants, pineapple, apple, cherries, and bananas for a natural sweetness.
High Mountain Black Tea– Made of the finest whole leaf, single-estate black tea leaves. Low in astringency, rich in flavor, and clean on the palate.
Citrus Green Tea– Smooth green tea infused with a refreshing lemon zest.
