Brentwood Corn

Dwelley Farms, located in the Brentwood, agricultural area, is close to the Sacramento Delta and within view of the Altamont Pass and Mt. Diablo. During the growing season, the area is characterized by hot days and cool nights which result in excellent growing conditions.

Summer Produce

We continue our transition to summer crops this week with two significant new arrivals. White Corn from Dwelley Farms is now available with yellow corn to follow next week. The corn from this Brentwood area farm is recognized for its quality and flavor.

Due to increased demand over the past decade or so, growers now plant ten acres of sweet white corn to every acre of yellow, which often creates a gap for yellow corn in the middle of the season. Local blackberries from Bridgeway Farms are also available this week. The farm, located in Dixon, Ca. is the latest endeavor of Rich Collins, founder of California Vegetable Specialties in Rio Vista, which is our year round source for Belgian Endive. Rich started Bridgeway in 2007 and this is the third year for his blackberry crop. The first variety is Obsidian, a ripe sweet-tart berry to be followed by Black Diamond, a larger, sweeter variety. In all, these berries are picked daily and have a much more pronounced flavor than the larger commercial crops. Organic Apricots From Frog Hollow Farm remain available with a new variety almost every week. Several of our customers have ordered multiple times and these 'cots are rapidly qualifying as the best new crop of the year. Enjoy the harvest.
