Description

Gala apples ripen in August and are the first variety harvested by Larsen Apple Barn in Placerville. Their dense flesh is creamy yellow and crisp, offering a mildly sweet flavor and flora aroma with red stripes over a pale yellow background.

History

Gala apples are a cross between Golden Delicious and Cox's Orange Pippin, an old English favorite. They were introduced for commercial production in 1965, but didn't make their way into the U.S. market until the 1980's.
