Squash - Sugar Pie Pumpkin

Squash - Sugar Pie Pumpkin

Description

Sugar Pies are the modern baking pumpkin. The skin is very thin, the flesh is sweeter and substantially smoother than a jack-o-lantern type pumpkin (they were bred for thick rinds and stability when carved . . . not eating!). It is also quite dry which makes for a more stable pie.
Sugar pie pumpkins will keep in cool, dry storage for up to a month.

Pack Size

Applications/Techniques

Most commonly used for desserts such as pies, custards, cheesecakes, cupcakes and muffins; Pumpkins also make delicious accompaniments to grilled or roasted meats and seafood, risottos, pastas, pizzas, and fried dishes like fritto misto & tempura.
A 4lb pumpkin should yield about 1 ½ cups of mashed pumpkin.
